The Blockbuster Report

A few highly anticipated films came are out this weekend. Unfortunately, they all seem to be falling a little flat. Even The Butler, which was garnering early Oscar murmurs, isn’t quite up to expectations, although it easily bests Kick-Ass 2Jobs, and Paranoia.

Limited release films this week include the Western Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, starring Rooney Mara, and Austenland, a romcom about one of Jane Austen’s biggest fans. Nothing in particular really jumps out to me this weekend. The Butler seems to be the best of the bunch, but I get the feeling that it isn’t a film for everyone. Maybe skip the theaters this weekend and take in the sights of wherever you happen to be as the summer winds down.

Where Do They Come From?

The Butler is based on the Washington Post article “A Butler Well Served By this Election,” written by journalist Wil Haygood, Jobs is an original screenplay by Matt Whiteley, and Paranoia is based on the novel of the same name written by Joseph Finder.
